Welcoming a New School Year with Continued Progress at Melrose Elementary

Construction continues to make outstanding progress at Melrose Elementary School as work advances across multiple phases of the campus transformation. From new buildings taking shape to major renovation milestones and site improvements, each week brings the project one step closer to delivering a modernized campus for students, teachers, and staff.

Phase 2: New Construction Progress

Underground utility work is nearing completion as construction of the new Administration/Media Center and Classroom Building continues to advance. The new lift station has arrived on-site and is currently being installed, along with the associated sanitary piping and force main connection.

The Administration/Media Center is now coming out of the ground. Foundations, stem walls, under-slab utilities, and the slab have been completed, with CMU walls currently being installed. The Classroom Building is following closely behind, with foundations complete and slab work underway. Construction of the new parent drop-off loop is also progressing and will be paved after major structural materials are installed.

Phase 3: Campus Renovations

Renovations in Buildings 14, 15, and 16 are nearing completion. Work includes interior upgrades, new fire alarm, intercom, and IT systems, updated plumbing fixtures, ceiling fans, and exterior improvements such as new insulated metal roofing, painting, lighting, and window film.

North campus sitework continues to move forward with storm drainage installation complete and the parent drop-off loop being prepared for the upcoming school year. FDOT roadway improvements remain on schedule for completion before the fall semester.

Phase 4: Preparing for the Future

Two new portable classrooms have been installed southwest of Building 6 to accommodate students displaced by the demolition of Buildings 3 and 7.

Asbestos abatement and demolition of Buildings 3, 7, and the existing cafeteria are now complete. The building pad for the new Cafetorium is nearly finished, and layout activities are underway as construction prepares to begin on the new facility.

Looking Ahead

Renovation work in Buildings 14, 15, and 16 will be completed, with Buildings 14–17 now featuring new insulated metal roofing and upgraded building systems.

Construction will continue on the new Administration/Media Center, Classroom Building, and Cafetorium. The Administration/Media Center will be the first building dried in with the installation of the light-gauge metal roof trusses and decking, followed by the Classroom Building and Cafetorium.

As students and staff return for the new school year, sitework will continue in designated construction areas on the west, south, and east sides of campus while minimizing disruptions to daily school operations. Updated traffic patterns, pedestrian walkways, signage, and protective canopies will be in place to ensure a safe and efficient campus environment.

With major milestones being reached and new facilities beginning to take shape, it is an exciting time for the Melrose Elementary community. Each week brings visible progress toward a transformed campus that will provide students, teachers, and staff with modern learning environments for years to come.
