Construction at Melrose Elementary continues to make exciting progress as the campus moves through several major phases of its renovation and expansion. With Phase 3 complete, temporary facilities in operation, and the new Administration/Media Center, Classroom Building, and Cafetorium taking shape, the project is moving closer to delivering an improved learning environment for students and staff.

Current Status

Phase 2: New Buildings Take Shape

Work on the new Administration/Media Center and Classroom Building continues to advance, with significant progress visible across both structures. At the Administration/Media Center, the roof is approximately 70% complete, exterior doors are installed, and drywall installation is complete in the Administration area. Interior painting is underway, HVAC ductwork is installed, and mechanical, electrical, and plumbing rough-ins are progressing toward completion. Meanwhile, the Media Center is dried in, with interior framing underway.

The Classroom Building is also making strides, with CMU wall construction complete and metal roof truss installation underway. The parent drop-off loop, completed over the summer, is already serving the school community. Additional paving, sidewalks, landscaping, canopies, fencing, and other site improvements will follow as construction progresses.

Phase 3: Improvements Complete and Buildings Reopened

A major milestone was reached over the summer with the successful completion of Phase 3. Buildings 14, 15, and 16 are now fully occupied and serving students and staff for the current school year.

The renovations included new insulated metal roofing, exterior painting, lighting upgrades, and window film, along with interior improvements to fire alarm, intercom, IT, and plumbing systems. New ceiling fans and additional finish upgrades further enhance these existing facilities. With these improvements complete, work has shifted toward the new buildings, Cafetorium, and remaining campus enhancements.

Phase 4: Cafetorium Construction Moves Forward

Construction of the new Cafetorium is progressing, bringing the campus one step closer to a modern dining and multipurpose space. Underground mechanical, electrical, and plumbing work is complete, the building slab has been placed, and CMU wall construction is underway as the structure begins to rise above grade.

In the meantime, the new portable classrooms are complete and occupied, and a temporary Cafetorium is supporting daily dining and school activities throughout construction. As the permanent facility takes shape, crews will continue with structural walls, roof installation, building enclosure, mechanical and electrical systems, and interior finishes.

Next Steps: Building Momentum Across Campus

In the coming weeks, construction will continue advancing across the new facilities and surrounding campus. The Administration/Media Center will move closer to completion with HVAC start-up, interior finishes, and building system testing. Semi-permanent electrical power is planned for mid-November, with the transition scheduled during the Veterans Day holiday period to minimize disruption to school operations.

At the Classroom Building and Cafetorium, crews will continue installing roof structures and roofing systems before moving into interior framing and mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and fire protection work. Installation of exterior mechanical equipment and associated system connections will also begin, marking the transition toward more extensive building systems and interior construction.

Meanwhile, south campus sitework will resume, including underground storm drainage, retention area improvements, and construction of the fire truck access road. During winter break, the Gymnasium floor will also be evaluated and leveled, with repairs completed as needed to minimize impacts on students and staff.

With completed renovations already serving the school community and new facilities steadily taking shape, Melrose Elementary is entering an exciting stage of its transformation. Parrish McCall Constructors remains focused on coordinating construction safely and efficiently around daily campus activities while bringing these important improvements closer to completion.
